The Difference Between Marble and Granite

The Difference Between Marble and Granite

Marble and granite are rocks that originate from natural processes. Both have almost indistinguishable colors. However, it turns out that marble and granite are two different materials, especially in their motifs and functions.

The Origin of Marble and Granite

Marble is classified as metamorphic stone because it’s created by the transformation of another type of stone called sedimentary stone. Sedimentary rocks form from sediments in the earth combined with buried plant life under the earth over a long period of time. Basically, marble originates as limestone and transforms into marble.

Granite is classified as igneous rock because of its origin from the cooling down of molten magma. It originates by solidification and cooling of magma deep within the earth over a period of millions of years.

Appearance

The basic thing that differentiates marble and granite is their appearance. In detail, the two have differences in terms of motifs. Granite has a dotted motif. This motif comes from a mixture of various types of assistance in the formation process.

Meanwhile, marble has a motif in the form of wavy vein lines with natural colors. This motif is formed from dirt that settles during the recrystallization process. Both motifs are formed naturally, so there are almost no granite motifs that are the same as marble.

At Marble&Co we have collections with various marble colors. Of course, through a detailed curation process to produce an art piece that is a feast for the eyes. Because it is made from 100% natural marble, the patterns produced in each product will be different from each other. This is what makes our products present to you exclusively.

Durability

In terms of durability, granite has a durability of 6 - 7 on the Mohs scale. Granite material is suitable for use in kitchen interiors and exteriors. Meanwhile, marble has durability that is not much different from granite. Marble is suitable as a base material for furniture and home decoration.

You can find examples of home decorations made from marble at Marble&Co. No need to doubt the quality of our marble, our art pieces and furniture are made from marble which is sturdy and durable as an aesthetic display for the room.

Stain Resistance

Before processing, marble material goes through a tested polishing stage so as to minimize stains on the surface. The same is true with granite because of its metamorphic properties which produce a more porous material.

Of course, we really ensure the quality of the marble before processing it into an art piece. Marble&Co products have gone through a coating stage so they do not absorb stains. Marble care from Marble&Co is also not as complicated as you might imagine. If it is stained, clean it immediately with a dry microfiber cloth to keep the marble surface smooth.
